It appears that the fashion industry came to the conclusion that it was suitable for the ballet flat to return, and Gen Z promptly gave it their thumbs up.
Although heels and shoes have been dominating shoe trends for decades, traditional design has been mostly off the radar for some time. However, it appears as though the ballet flat is all of a sudden losing its seedy image and is being invited back with great enthusiasm.
The comeback of the ballerina flat appears to be much more than a passing fad, which is hardly unexpected given that the balletcore style, which also gained popularity this last year, continued in the wake of other extremely feminine concepts like the cottagecore aesthetic.
The flats have their roots in ballet, one of the most refined art forms, but they first appeared in popular culture when Brigitte Bardot wore a pair created by Italian shoe designer Rose Repetto in the 1956 movie And God Created Woman.
However, everything returns eventually, and now that enough time has passed, the look feels just as current as it did in the 1950s.
