Bows have recently emerged as a prominent accessory trend, taking both the internet and fashion runways by storm as the must-have hair decoration. This decorative design element, however, has evolved beyond mere accessory status, securing its place in outerwear embellishments. For Fall/Winter 2024, high fashion brands and designers have integrated bows into their garments, using them as striking ornaments rather than simple trimmings. Bows have been presented in exaggerated forms as sole fastening devices and even in head-to-toe designs.
Bows over garments represent a continuation and expansion of a trend that has already gained traction on social media and found a devoted customer base in recent months. Adding this detail to dresses and gowns is a natural evolution, introducing the design to a broader audience as on-trend eveningwear, a segment that is also coinciding with the major revival of the event industry, making bow-adorned eveningwear a timely fashion choice.
Building on the current popularity of bows, the bow dress is well positioned to appeal to consumers. The resurgence of eveningwear further enhances the element’s relevance, making it a stylish and essential addition to wardrobes for the upcoming season.
Further proof comes from the Pinterest Predicts report, which highlights trends expected to dominate the site and consumer interests in the coming year.
According to Pinterest, one of the significant micro trends for 2024 will be the adornment of garments and accessories with various types of bows. The platform has witnessed a remarkable 180 to 190 per cent increase in searches for ‘Bow outfit’ and ‘Bow necklace’.
Interestingly, this year’s overarching theme, ‘Make it Big’, defined by the platform as Gen Z’s impending adoption of ‘impactful accessories’ and jewellery as a form of creativity, aligns with the ‘Bow Stacking’ trend which reflects Gen Z’s growing interest in incorporating bows— both large and small — into their outfits, shoes, hair as well as jewellery.
