Contemporary menswear designer John Elliott is all set to showcase his first-ever women’s fashion collection in 2018.
The new collection will be unveiled at the upcoming New York Fashion Week on February 12 at 10 am.
Council of Fashion Designers America has readjusted the fashion calendar this season in such a way that instead of separate weeks for both genders, there will be a combined 10-day long Week. The Week will be kicked off by men’s shows on the fifth and end with women’s shows beginning right after on the eighth.
The American designer, Elliott, is known for merging luxury streetwear with athletic bent details and will be presenting a co-ed Autumn/Winter 2018 assortment this time.
The new womenswear collection will consist of a full range of denim, knit pieces, evening wear and cut-and-sewn outerwear garments. While most of the details are still under wraps and will only be unveiled on the day of the show, we know that he is continuing his Nike collaboration and more such partnerships are also expected from the show.
A hint at the possible introduction of the John Elliott girl came much before via the brand’s spring campaign where a female model was seen wearing silk menswear-inspired blouse and even the men’s assortment was styled in a very androgynous custom.
The designer is well-aware of the fickleness and over-saturation of the womenswear market but believes that even though a lot of people are trying to play the ‘athluxury’ game, there is no winner yet. Exhibiting a very positive outlook, the designer said, “It took over a year to build the line and we’re excited about our point of view and what it means to do women’s. So we’re cautiously optimistic that it’ll be well received.”
