The Indian Government will soon hold a massive summit in Guwahati to boost the handloom and handicraft industries, according to Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita.
During his recent visit to the Barak Valley, Margherita stated that the upcoming mega textile conclave will include key players from all Northeastern states’ government departments. Additionally, agencies and social entities involved in the textile industry will be invited with the goal of generating new perspectives on how to support the growth of the handloom and handicraft industries.
Margherita stated that Assam produces Muga, a unique silk found only in the region, and emphasised the state’s self-reliance in this regard. He expressed optimism that the upcoming conclave would open new opportunities to revitalise the handloom and handicraft sectors, while also inspiring those working within these industries.
The minister stated that the Northeast, with its vast potential and resources, is the entry point to the ASEAN nations, and the Government is hopeful that weaving and clothing manufacturing facilities would soon develop in this area.
