Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is going to organise the second edition of Dhaka Apparel Summit on February 25th next year to set the next course of action on achieving US $ 50 billion export target by the year 2021. The summit, which will be held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Additionally, the summit will showcase the progress of initiatives taken to improve the safety standard and condition of the workers in the RMG sector following the factory disaster in 2013. The day-long event will be attended by representatives from buyers, brands, university scholars and workers’ representatives who will focus on possible road map to the achievement of US $ 50 billion export target.
Every year, BGMEA organises the Dhaka Summit with an aim to open dialogue for a road map to building responsible supply chains for textiles and garment sector that contribute to a sustainable development and inclusive growth of the economy.

The event will bring together world’s leading experts in their respective fields to share their experiences and visionary thoughts on issues pertaining to the apparel industry and ways in which the business can realise sustainable growth well into the 21st century. International experts will also be talking on various topics including ‘Collaborative and Responsible Sourcing For Sustainable Growth’ and ‘Business Policy & Environment: Towards a Better Bangladesh’ among others.
The sessions will offer a more open and inter-active environment, allowing full audience participation and the opportunity for a valid exchange of ideas. The seminars will be attended by representatives of the government, international organizations, economists, brand representatives, development organizations, employers, workers’ representatives, civil society members, academics, and media from home and abroad.
