
Bangladesh’s home textile industry has become the second biggest export earner for the country after the readymade garment sector, leaving behind all other sectors.
According to reports, home textiles registered a growth of 36.79 per cent in the first nine months (July-March) of the current 2021-22 fiscal year even if according to the latest data from Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), home textile exporters earned Taka around US $ 1.15 billion or around Taka 115.78 from home textile exports, which is around 36.79 per cent more than the entire period of the last fiscal year.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Chairman of Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BTTLMEA), M Shahadat Hossain, who had earlier predicted this growth, underlined buyers from America and Europe are now keen on importing from Bangladesh after turning away from Pakistan for various reasons.
“…we are getting orders from many countries because of the Russia-Ukraine crisis as well,” further claimed the BTTLMEA Chairman.
