Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Textiles, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution recently interacted with the leaders of Indian textile industry and discussed a gamut of subjects as well as policies.
“We must achieve target of US $ 44 billion textile exports in 2021-22,” said Piyush Goyal.
He further went on saying that the Government is always open to consider all industry requirements to ensure that targets are achieved, while maintaining his stand that the industry shouldn’t depend on subsidies.
It’s worth noting here that Textile Ministry has announced two key schemes – PLI and MITRA Parks – in 2021 and it is believed both schemes are going to benefit the industry in a big way as well as help the industry reach target of US $ 100 billion in next 5 years.
“We can no longer be satisfied with small increments and it’s time for a quantum jump,” said Piyush in the meeting which was mainly convened to review the progress being made to achieve US $ 100 billion export turnover in textile sector.
According to him, the exporters must back the expectations of the nation with their effort, expertise & efficiency; at the same time, they should explore new markets.
Goyal asked the participants and stakeholders to especially take care of small exporters and guide them. “The Government aims to provide a conducive ecosystem to explore our competitive and comparative advantage. These include simplification of laws, reduction of compliance burden, RoSTCL & RoDTEP notified,” added Piyush.
