Telangana’s Industry Minister KT Rama Rao has said that Union Government is not supporting the state’s textile industry.
Accusing Union Government of not extending any financial help to the textile industry, he said that several representations to Centre for help had fallen on deaf ears.
In a press conference in Sircilla, the Minister said that “Telangana Government had urged the Centre for granting Indian Institute of Handloom Technology and a mega powerloom cluster in Sircilla and funds for Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, which is being developed on 1,200 acres. The State Government was keen to set up textile parks in Dubbak, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Pochampally and other places, but there was no response from Union Government.”
Notably, in last few years, KT Rama Rao is the only minister who has raised such questions categorically to textile industry.
The Minister said that the Telangana is the only state which provides 50 per cent subsidy to weavers on their material. The State Government has given Rs. 1,134 crore order for weavers under various schemes.
He said the State Government would be coming up with new schemes like work-to-order scheme for weavers by allocating Rs. 400 crore.
