Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), the premier institute engaged in applied R&D, consultancy and training since 1974 has now launched its new academic wing, NITRA Technical Campus (NTC) to cater to the manpower requirements of the complete textile and apparel supply chain. From August 2012, NITRA will offer 4-year B. Tech program in Textile Technology; 4-year B. Tech program in Computer Science & Engineering; and 2-year PGDM program in Fashion Retail Management (FRM).
[bleft]Unlike other academic institutes, NITRA provides an opportunity to the students to be in continuous touch with the industry as it has more than 1200 clients and about 1500 alumni. [/bleft]
These programs are approved by AICTE and the B. Tech programs are affiliated to Mahamaya Technical University, Noida (Code – 901). The FRM program is offered in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University (UK). In the final semester of the program, students have an option to undertake internship in UK for 12 weeks which gives an international exposure. With addition of these two programs to the existing 6 full-time and 6 distance learning programs, NITRA is the only campus to offer programs to groom youngsters and working executives either to become senior executives to manage the challenges of highly volatile domestic and international markets or become hardcore technologists to manage state-of-the-art technologists at the shop floor.
NITRA strengthened its laboratories, workshops, library and class rooms by taking Rs. 40 crore as grants from both Central and UP State Governments. The recently established Centre of Excellence (Protech) to evaluate technical textiles as per national and international standards provides unique opportunity to students to get first-hand information on international market requirements. The incubation centre for indigenous development of prototypes facilitates industry specific projects.
NTC, NITRA’s new hub of professional excellence is an institute dedicated to attain academic heights by nurturing corporate professionals for tomorrow in the areas of Engineering & Technology, and Management. It is spread over a huge multi-facility Wi-Fi campus with 1,68,000 sq. ft area having buildings with latest infrastructural facilities and separate hostel blocks for boys and girls. It is often felt by the industry that students passing out from many institutes lack practical exposure on modern technologies and are therefore not ready for immediate employment. NITRA, through its state-of-the-art infrastructure that include 14 laboratories with latest imported and domestic machineries and equipment, provides students a unique opportunity to undergo comprehensive training on world-class facilities, all available under one roof, to make them “industry ready”. Each student spends more than 50 per cent of time on practical training to acquire necessary skills for immediate employment in the industry.
NITRA has highly qualified and industry-experienced pool of faculty. The faculty members possess Doctoral/PG degrees in textiles, garments, marketing, HR, retail, merchandising, fashion, IT, EXIM, environment and have vast experience by way of industrial consultancy, training and R&D activities. Such a rich portfolio of intellectual capital brings to the classroom professional capabilities that directly benefit the students in understanding real-life situations required to manage business operations.
For the academic session 2012-13, NITRA is offering PGDM – Fashion Retail Management: a 2-year full-time program; B. Tech: Textile Technology- 4 year full-time programs; and B. Tech: Computer Science & Engg- 4 year full-time programs. Besides this full-time Short-Term Programs are available in many industry focused subjects.
