According to Finance and Commerce Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, the projects financed by Indian loans would move on as scheduled. After meeting at his office with India’s high commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, the adviser provided this update.
“These projects are crucial for strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries. We discussed ways to increase cooperation,” he said.
This declaration was made in the wake of Sheikh Hasina’s administration being overthrown in a widespread rebellion on 5th August, raising questions regarding the prompt execution of projects backed by the three lines of credit (LoC). The LoCs were inked when Hasina was in office.
Under the terms of the LoC, India has pledged US $ 7.36 billion for 42 projects including infrastructure, including power, shipping, highways, ICT, telecommunications, civil aviation, and economic zones in Bangladesh. Thus far, the LoC has disbursed approximately US $ 2 billion.
Speaking to reporters, Verma said, “We remain fully engaged.”
