State Government of Gujarat (India) has announced a new apparel policy for the state.
The announcement has come close on the heels of a one-year extension of the state’s current textile policy which was supposed to expire in September this year.
In the new apparel policy, the Government has announced to set up 16 new Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) industrial estates.
The GIDCs will be spread over an area of 2,400 hectares and create 100,000 new jobs. These estates will have the potential to house around 15,000 garment manufacturing facilities.
“The latest apparel policy will help SMEs grow in the state, especially in remote locations,” underlined Vijay Rupani, Gujarat Chief Minister while launching the new policy.
Additionally, the Government reportedly claims that the fresh policy will attract investments worth Rs. 20,000 crores with the incentives offered. “We want entrepreneurs to invest in the garment business,” said the CM.
The Government has incentivised unit owners by giving subsidy in wages to generate jobs. Female employees will be given a subsidy of Rs. 4,000, while male counterparts will get Rs. 3,500.
