Workers employed in Bangladesh’s leather and footwear sector would now get Taka 7,100 as the minimum wage following Government’s move to increase the same by 94.41 per cent.
As per media reports, the Government has also incorporated a provision for 5 per cent increment of basic pay annually.
The Government has issued a new notification in this direction (fixing the new minimum wage) following Minimum Wage Board’s recommendations.
The Government, in the new wage board, has categorised four grades for employees and six grades for workers in the leather goods and footwear sector.
As per the gazette notification issued by the Government, for the sixth grade, basic payment has been fixed at Taka 3,500; house rent at Taka 1,750; medical allowance of Taka 600 (for all grades of workers); Taka 350 and Taka 900 have reportedly been fixed as transport and food allowances.
