Thanks to shortage of gas supply to the industrial units, production in textile mills in some areas in the port city of Chittagong, Gazipur, Savar, Dhamrai, Narayanganj and Manikganj has been severely affected even as the textile mill owners in these areas have expressed apprehensions, they will lose work orders if production cannot be continued even if many have been running at 50 per cent to 60 per cent capacity owing to low pressure of gas.
Media reports maintained this while adding the mill owners have stated that even though they are approved 10 pounds per square inch (psi) or more for operations, gas pressure in some areas faltered so much that it reached a mere 1.5 psi.
“…I have been facing gas pressure issues over the last one month and my investment is in jeopardy now because of lower production of yarn,” reportedly, claimed Chairman of Mosharaf Group (a leading spinner) Md. Mosharaf Hossain speaking to the media even as he added that his production capacity has now come down to 100 tonnes of yarn per day even though he can produce around 140 tonnes of yarn in a day provided pressure of gas is satisfactory.
