In May 2023, Cambodia experienced a 16.28 per cent decrease in its apparel exports, reaching a total of US $ 644.517 million which is a decline compared to the previous year’s corresponding month when the country shipped apparel worth US $ 769.517 million.
Specifically, the shipment of knitted apparel and clothing accessories decreased by 17.8 per cent to US $ 274.406 million, contrasting with the US $ 135.560 million recorded during the same period in the previous year.
Additionally, the exports of non-knitted apparel and clothing accessories saw a 12 per cent drop, amounting to US $ 183.838 million in May 2023.
As to imports, Cambodia’s imports of knitted or crocheted fabric (Chapter 60) in the period of January-May 2023 amounting to US $ 1,080.570 million.
This figure represents a 23.5 per cent decrease compared to imports during the same period in 2022, which was valued at US $ 1,412.060 million.
Similarly, imports of manmade fibre (Chapter 55) experienced a decline of 17.8 per cent, reaching US $ 459.018 million, contrasting with the US $ 558.070 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2022.
On the other hand, imports of cotton and cotton yarn (Chapter 52) increased by 2 per cent to reach US $ 228.127 million in the review period, compared to US $ 223.632 million in the same period of 2022.
