In what is seen as a step to balance and keep stable the supply and demand scenario in view of largescale animal sacrifice during the Eid-ul-Azha festival, the Bangladesh Government on Wednesday temporarily lifted ban on export of rawhide and wet blue hide.
According to media reports, a public notice informing lifting the export ban on the raw and wet blue leathers imposed by the Export Policy 2018-21, was issued by the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports, which comes under the Commerce Ministry.
A decision to this end was reportedly taken following recommendations of the task force and a commerce ministry committee.
A press note issued by the Commerce Ministry in this direction underlined that it had decided to allow export of wet blue leather and rawhides and on case-to-case basis to keep supply and demand stable during Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the notice issued by the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports, rawhides and wet blue leatherwill remain excluded from the list of export-prohibited products in the export policy, until further notice.
