Bangladesh’s knitwear manufacturers’ body, the BKMEA or Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association has urged the central bank of the country (Bangladesh Bank) to extend the repayment period of salary stimulus loan to 42 months from the current 18 months.
Media reports maintained this adding AKM Salim Osman, the BKMEA President, at a recent meeting with Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir made this request, during which were, reportedly, present other leaders of the BKMEA as well.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BKMEA Executive President Mohammad Hatem, reportedly, underlined the knitwear makers have already paid six monthly instalments since the middle of 2021.
“…repaying the loan in the next 12 months would be very tough for us, particularly for our small-scale units,” reportedly, further maintained the BKMEA Executive President while adding they were yet to effectively absorb the pandemic shock and, in the given circumstances, sought more time to repay the salary stimulus loan, given to garment factories to cushion the pandemic fallouts.
