The 40th annual general meeting (AGM) of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was convened at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka on 8th August (Tuesday).
This is as per reports, which added the AGM was however, not attended by the BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and three vice presidents of the organisation, which reportedly is an unprecedented event in the history of BGMEA, as it was the first AGM held without the participation of the trade body’s president.
Meanwhile, interacting with the media, insiders with knowledge of the proceedings reportedly claimed the president’s absence could be attributed to the intricate dynamics surrounding the imminent election of the trade body even if there were concerns that criticisms might arise from within the trade body’s membership regarding this issue.
Meanwhile, S. M. Mannan (Kochi), the Senior Vice President of BGMEA reportedly led the AGM. Among the key agenda items, the financial reports for the fiscal year 2021-2022 were formally ratified, and the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2022-2023 received unanimous approval.
Aside from S. M. Mannan (Kochi), other attendees included BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, various BGMEA Directors, and general association members.
