The Petstock Group, which provides specialised services for pets, has announced a series of sustainability initiatives as it works towards a cleaner future.
The business will roll out a number of sustainability initiatives throughout its Petstock retail locations, specialty brands, headquarters and distribution sites. These programmes include everything from putting solar panels throughout its network to recycling packaging and uniforms.
The Group has teamed up with BlockTexx, an Australian textile resource recovery company, to recycle used uniforms and prevent them from going to waste.
“As part of our commitment to the planet, we did not want to see thousands of old uniforms ending up in landfill, and sought a recycling partner with a commitment to the principles of a circular economy,” said Laveen Dhillon, Sustainability Manager for the Petstock Group.
BlockTexx uses a chemical separation process to remanufacture the textiles into two different materials: microcrystalline cellulose, which can be used in many different industries including agriculture, construction, and manufacturing, and rPET pellets, which are suitable for use in injection moulding, packaging, building products, and textiles. According to BlockTexx, processing 1 kg of rejected textiles will offset 30 kg of CO2 equivalents.
BlockTexx co-founder Adrian Jones says, “Textiles are piling up in landfills all over the world, and by partnering with like-minded businesses, such as the Petstock Group, we can begin to provide end-of-life solutions to unwanted textiles and clothing.”
