Kitex’s MD booked by police

The row between Kitex Group’s MD Sabu M. Jacob and local politicians has been increasing in Kerala as a complaints with the Puthencruz police has been lodged by the CPI(M) and Kunnathunad MLA P.V. Sreenijin against Sabu M. Jacob

Sabu is also the party’s chief coordinator of Twenty20, the political outfit backed by Kitex Group, one of the leading infantwear manufacturers in the world.

The complaint says that Jacob’s speech, made at a public meeting of Twenty20 in Kolenchery was targeted at Sreenijin. It has been reported that Kerala Police registered an FIR against Sabu M Jacob and he was booked under Section 153 of the IPC (can lead to a riot).

The Kitex Group has termed the complaint a “fabricated one and a revengeful act.”

Shortly after the alleged provocative speech emerged on social media, Sreenijin had asked the leadership of Twenty20 and those backing it to introspect whether it was fitting to regard an elected representative in the manner Jacob did.

The MLA said, “I have filed a complaint against Kitex owner Sabu M Jacob for the casteist, racist remarks and hate speech made against me. The allegation is that his speech was derogatory and hateful.”
