IBM has lately announced its collaborations with Garmin Health, Mitsufuji, Guardhat and Smartcone in order to improve workers’ safety for those working in hazardous conditions like constructions sites, mines and factories.
According to IBM, there were approximately 3 million on-the-job injuries in 2017, which collectively cost their employers nearly US $ 60 billion in insurance and compensation expenses.
The company has planned to equip the workers with wearable Watson IoT devices that can easily monitor biometrics and changes such as height, heat and gas levels in the surrounding environment.

The wearables will apply advanced data collection and artificial intelligence (AI) to drive significant advances in monitoring and assessing the safety and health of workers in hazardous surroundings. IBM’s Maximo Worker Insights platform will collect the data which will further be retrieved by employers so as to respond to potentially dangerous conditions in the workplace.
With the development of the cutting-edge technology, a number of industries and businesses are employing it to try and boost the safety of employees in the workplace. Mining giant BHP is using autonomous drills at iron ore mines to trailing smart caps that analyze brain waves and monitor worker fatigue.
