Hong Kong will soon see its first textile plant that will produce recycled yarn from the old and discarded clothes. This will be the first of its kind for the country in last 50 years.
Elaborating further on this, Edwin Keh Yee-man, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Research Institute for Textiles and Apparel, averred that once that plant gets established, it is expected to revive the textile industry in the country.
He also added that ‘Made in Hong Kong’ products will also get a huge boost once the mill is set up.
The Tai Po facility owned by the local enterprise, Novatex, is spread over 19,000 square feet. Once operational, the mill is expected to churn out 3 tonnes of recycled fibres from almost the same quantity of textile waste at no extra cost and time, daily.
Keh added that opening the recycling plant in Hong Kong holds significance as it shows the world that the country is capable enough to resolve the textile wastage concern locally.
