In a step towards recycling plastic waste, Bisleri’s ‘Bottles For Change’ initiative has successfully transformed around 10,00,000 used PET bottles into uniforms for 5,000 employees across India.
The bottles went through a recycling unit where they were turned into flakes. These flakes were then used to create yarns that were then dyed. The resulting yarns were then mixed with cotton and viscose to make fabrics which are then processed to make shirts and trousers, respectively.
According to Bisleri, it took 45 bottles to make a shirt and 47 to make a pair of trousers.
Adding to it, Anjana Ghosh, Director Marketing and OSR, Bisleri International, said, “We thought we should practice what we preach that ‘plastics are not waste’. Hence our entire staff across India is proud to burst the myths around plastics. 5,000 employees will flaunt their uniforms proudly made from our own plastic bottles.”
She also mentioned that there are many misconceptions around recycling of plastic in India and people need to be more aware on how they could contribute to recycling of plastic.
Bottles For Change has so far recycled 4,800 tonnes of plastic and has been involving various corporate, educational institutes and even households to minimise the impact of plastic on the environment.
