The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal, Telangana (India), which has been under the first phase of development since past one year, has finally received ‘Environmental Clearance’ from the Central Government. The Park will now enter the next development phase.
As per media reports, the State Government will invest next two weeks in attracting potential textile manufacturers to establish textile units in the park. Special incentives for the units will also be offered. Once the process is finalised, it is expected that facilities will become operational in next 10 months.
The yet-to-be set up units in the park would undertake textile processing, ginning, spinning, weaving, and garment manufacturing processes. The Government has planned to have the entire textile value chain within the upcoming park as the major chunk of processing units has gone to Andhra Pradesh since Telangana was declared as an independent state in 2014.
It is expected that the state, which the capacity of producing around 60 lakh cotton bales a year, would benefit from the establishment of the upcoming textile park. It will also boost the domestic processing of cotton. Currently, only 10 lakh bales are being processed in Telangana, while the rest are sent to other states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, which increase the cost of production.
Additionally, the vertically integrated setup of the textile park would eventually generate direct employment for 35,000 people including cotton farmers and handloom workers as well. It would also give an opportunity to workers, who wish to relocate to their native State from Surat, where they are currently employed at textile mills. The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park will also give exposure to the women workers in the state. Furthermore, to ensure the availability of skilled workforce, skill development and training centres will also be established at the Park.
In proximity to the railway line, national highways 163 and 563 and the proposed Outer Ring Road, the textile park in Warangal will be poised with world-class infrastructure in the next phase such as Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP). It will also have testing laboratory and marketplace for finished goods at a later stage.
“A lot of players have already shown their interest in the park. Once facilities like CETP and other infrastructure become operational, leading players are also expected to show up,” said industry sources.
