E-commerce giant SHEIN is sending more low-priced apparel and home goods to US warehouses from China to speed up shipping times for shoppers, says a Reuters report referencing global trade analysis firm ImportGenius.
SHEIN, a retailer famous for its reasonably priced blouses and biker shorts, used to make many American customers wait up to two weeks or more to receive their purchases. According to observers, this has given the fast-fashion online retailer an unfair advantage over more powerful competitors like Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com, especially during the holiday shopping season.
SHEIN is likely to continue to increase its bulk exports to the United States in an effort to compete with established retailers on delivery times as it prepares for an IPO. The move also marks a strategy shift for SHEIN, which has traditionally flown goods directly from China to shoppers.
SHEIN still sends the majority of its merchandise by air in individually addressed packages – most of which enter the US under the ‘de minimis’ trade provision that exempts them from tariffs.
