Jaipur, despite being India’s major high fashion hub for apparel export, is struggling from decades to work with top brands and retailers. Especially the ones which place volume orders. Though the city’s top exporters are doing their best to get associated with such clients but their success rate is very less. However, things are now changing gradually, as few big buyers are now coming to Jaipur.
International celebrity and Founder of Nygard International, Peter Nygard, who owns nearly 400 stores across Canada and the US, recently visited Jaipur’s leading apparel exporter Art and Craft Exclusives. His sourcing and merchandise team also accompanied him. Peter expressed happiness to see the company’s products and to know about the overall working system. Nygard International does have its own manufacturing in Jordan and sources from China and Bangladesh too.
Anil Sharma, Director, Art and Craft Exclusives told Apparel Resources, “Peter shared that there is much more scope of our products at the international level. As he is willing to increase sourcing from Jaipur, we assured his team regarding support of GEAR (Garment Exporters Association of Rajasthan). Hopefully in future Nygard International will increase sourcing from Jaipur.”
So far Nygard International is sourcing from only 3 apparel exporters of India. On an average company’s initial orders remains from 1000 to 2500 pieces but FOB is from US $ 10 to 30 or more which is comparatively little high.
Aseem Singla, General Secretary, GEAR informed, “It is really good for Jaipur’s exporters. With collective efforts of apparel exporter fraternity, we are targeting to increase apparel export from Jaipur.”
Art and Craft Exclusives, so far, the only vendor of Nygard International is working with the same from last one and half year. As Nygard International is a corporate buyer, Art and Craft Exclusives improved its working and now enjoys a good business. Anil shared that he is working with a few other big buyers which have high FOB. The company, manufacturing almost 2 lakh pieces per month, added US market to its portfolio almost a year ago. By participating last year in Sourcing at Magic event, the company was able to connect itself with few good and big buyers. The export house also has its in-house organized printing and dyeing unit which is not common in Jaipur.
