
India’s Ministry of Textiles is giving priority to a proposal sent by Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) to set up a Centre of Excellence for research and development of the MMF fabrics in Surat. This was revealed by Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta during his visit to the city for SITEX.
“Surat is the MMF hub and that the Ministry of Textiles is seriously thinking of providing a Centre of Excellence and supporting the proposal for establishing a mega textile park at Pinjrat,” Ajay Tamta was quoted as saying.
The Centre for Excellence will allow the MMF sector to manufacture different varieties of fabrics having huge potential in international and domestic market.
SGCCI President BS Agarwal said, “MOS Textiles is committed to assist Surat’s textile industry in all possible manner. During his maiden visit, he has agreed to provide a Centre for Excellence and also a mega textile park in Surat. This has come as a good news for the entire textile sector.”

SGCCI has also signed an MoU with State Government of Gujarat to set up a mega textile par near at Pinjrat near Olpad. As per the proposed plan, the park will accommodate around 100 textile processing units, 40 water jet weaving units, around 225 garmenting units and other textile ancillary units, attracting a total investment of Rs. 10,000 crore. Moreover, the park will house giant textile processing units, each having average capacity of manufacturing over 3 lakh metres of fabric per day.
