Italian luxury menswear house Vercelli has formally entered India’s organised retail market with the launch of its first flagship store in Mumbai, marking a strategic step to strengthen its direct presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing luxury markets.
The store, located in Juhu, has been launched in partnership with Rishab World, a 95-year-old textile company that holds the brand’s India licence. The company is leveraging its longstanding expertise in fabrics and distribution to position Vercelli within India’s premium menswear segment.
For more than a decade, Vercelli has been present in India through select premium multi-brand outlets operated by its official local licensee. Industry representatives indicated that the launch of an exclusive flagship marks a shift towards a direct-to-consumer retail strategy aimed at establishing a stronger luxury identity in the country.
The flagship outlet spans approximately 4,500 sq ft across two levels and is designed to showcase the brand’s complete product offering and client experience in a single location. The ground floor features the ready-to-wear collection, including shirts crafted from Italian fabrics, tailored jackets, structured trousers, premium knitwear and accessories.
The upper level houses a dedicated bespoke studio equipped with curated Italian fabric libraries and private fitting rooms. Under the brand’s bespoke model, garments are measured in India before being produced in Italy and delivered to clients.
Vercelli’s design direction is overseen by Guido Bertagnolio, a veteran designer with more than six decades of experience in luxury menswear. Company representatives said Bertagnolio’s expertise in fabric selection and soft tailoring continues to shape the brand’s design philosophy and product development.
With Mumbai serving as its initial retail base in India, the brand plans to gradually expand into other major metropolitan markets. Executives indicated that the strategy is aimed at building a stronger direct luxury footprint in the country as demand for premium menswear continues to grow.
