Decathlon, the French sporting goods retailer, will be finally shutting down its 60 stores in Russia following boycott calls from consumers.
Recently, several consumers took a stand against the retailer with protesters in Poland also standing outside Decathlon stores holding photos of war victims in Ukraine.
Also, Decathlon owner, French retail giant Association Familiale Mulliez, had been lately receiving lot of flak for their decision to keep stores open.
The clothing retailer, however, stated that supply chain hurdles caused it to take the decision to move out of Russia.
Even at a time when hordes of fashion retailers like H&M, Zara and many other decided to exit Russia, following its invasion of Ukraine, Decathlon had resisted all calls to stop trading in the country.
But the consumer backlash seems to have been too hot to handle for the retailer.
Decathlon has said that in strict compliance with international sanctions imposed on Russia, it has noted that the supply conditions are no longer met to continue its activity in the country.
With over 1,697 stores in 60 countries and regions, Decathlon is the largest sporting goods retailer in the world.
