Formed by the Bangladesh Government to look into the occupational safety situation at industries across the country, the National Safety Committee has so far inspected 5,200 manufacturing units in Bangladesh.
Media reports maintained this citing the Adviser to the Prime Minister on private industry and investment Salman F Rahman.
The committee was, reportedly, formed last in July last year headed by Salman F Rahman, to monitor the safety issues at the factories which were not inspected by the buyers’ bodies- Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh and Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, formed in the aftermath of Rana Plaza incident to inspect and carry out remediation.
Underlining the garment sector was reaping the benefits of the decent working environment, Salman F Rahman, reportedly,stated that the national committee has already inspected 5,200 factories, and the rest will also be brought under inspection soon even if initially, many owners were reluctant to start reforms in the garment sector, but now they are enjoying the benefit of the inspection and remediation, he, reportedly, added.
