Morocco will provide US $ 410 million in financial support to China’s textile giant, Sunrise Group, to help fund an industrial project that is expected to create 11,000 jobs. The announcement followed a visit by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to a Sunrise factory in China during his trip to attend an Africa summit.
This partnership builds on an agreement signed in April between Morocco and Sunrise Group to establish multiple textile plants across Morocco. The Sunrise Group, a global leader in the textile sector, employs nearly 30,000 people worldwide and is known for its advanced 4.0 production systems and commitment to sustainable practices.
Morocco remains a key player in the global textile industry, ranking in the top 10 suppliers to the European market and holding the second-largest position among Mediterranean textile exporters. The industry employs around 200,000 people across 1,600 companies. However, the sector faces challenges due to its reliance on imported materials, which increases vulnerability to supply chain disruptions and limits the benefits of free trade agreements.
