The Uttar Pradesh government is set to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway as an “expressway-cum-industrial corridor”, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to officially launch the project on 29th April.
The corridor is being developed as a backbone for industrial growth, with nearly Rs 47,000 crore (US $4.96 billion) in proposed investments and 987 project proposals across sectors such as textiles, apparel, logistics, food processing, electronics, and engineering.
The expressway is being developed as an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC), by linking infrastructure with industrial growth.
The project will span about 594 km and connect 12 districts including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. These clusters are expected to host a wide range of industries, including textiles and apparel reinforcing the state’s push toward large-scale manufacturing-led growth.
The Ganga Expressway corridor aligns with this strategy by leveraging district-level strengths. For instance, Meerut stands out as a key textile center with capabilities in textile printing, processing, sportswear, and handloom production, while Unnao is being developed as a major textile and garmenting hub under the IMLC framework. Hardoi is emerging as a key textile destination, positioned for apparel and handloom expansion with a planned 270-acre PM MITRA Park.
Similarly, Amroha has an established base in handloom and powerloom production, while Shahjahanpur is known for its Zari-Zardozi embroidery, contributing to value-added textile segments. Budaun, identified as one of the key IMLC nodes, focuses on cotton textiles, and Prayagraj continues to be a significant hub for cotton and handloom-based production.
Under Uttar Pradesh’s Textile & Garmenting Policy, incentives such as capital subsidies, land support, and power benefits are being offered to attract investments across the value chain. The state is also developing textile parks and cluster-based ecosystems to integrate spinning, weaving, processing, and garmenting operations.
Overall, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly strengthening its industrial base through large-scale expressway-linked and cluster-based developments and a significant focus on the textile and apparel sector.
Alongside the Ganga Expressway industrial corridor, the state is developing major initiatives such as the Yamuna Expressway Industrial area where around 90% of industrial plots have already been allotted to garment and textile units.
The project, developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), spans approximately 175 acres with 173 industrial plots dedicated to apparel and related textile businesses.
Within this cluster-based ecosystem, Sabs Exports International, a recognised apparel export company, has announced an investment of over Rs 60 crore (US$6.59 million) to set up a manufacturing unit along the Yamuna Expressway, marking the first step toward formal land allotment for the project.
