Even if Dhaka’s First Joint District Judge court had issued an injunction banning Peacocks and its agents from conducting business with any apparel factory in Bangladesh, it has, reportedly, come to notice of the BGMEA and the country’s central bank (Bangladesh Bank) that some RMG units were doing business with the UK-based fashion retailer still, following which the BGMEA has asked its member factories to refrain from doing business with the concerned brand.
Reports claimed this citing the sources within BGMEA, while adding the Bangladesh Bank on 11 September sent a letter to the BGMEA President informing the opinion of the legal retainer of the central bank seeking help from BGMEA to implement the court’s order even as the letter underlined the subject matter of the dispute was within the purview of apparel industry and the BGMEA was the guardian authority of the industry.
“We have issued notices to the members and instructed them not to do business with the brand,” reportedly, claimed BGMEA Vice-President Khandoker Rafiqul Islam while speaking to the media.
