Ashima Dyecot, part of the Ahmedabad based prestigious Ashima Group, is moving towards automation by replacing old machines at its garment manufacturing unit. The initiative, which is as of now in the early stages of implementation will be complete by the end of the current year and will cost almost US $ 0.33 million (Rs. 2 crore). Machines that would be installed are mostly for jeans manufacturing like waist band attachment, loop attachment, pocket seams, etc. Producing almost 1.2 million pieces per annum (mostly jeans and shirts) and exporting 90 per cent of its produce to various countries, the company will replace or add almost 150 machines.
Dipen Patel, Head-Production of the company who was recently exploring such machines in Delhi, shared with Apparel Online, “As productivity is the key and one can’t think about it without automation, there is no option but to switch over. Though currently we are doing our best with existing setup but there is good scope of improvement, so we decided to go for automation.” The garment unit of Ashima is WRAP certified and also has certifications like ISO- 9001 & ISO 14001. The group is exporting its fabric to many countries and has good presence in the domestic market also. The company also owns a garment brand (Frank Jefferson) in India, offering complete range of garments.
