
According to a report from the US Labour Department, Los Angeles based garment industry workers are losing millions of dollars a year in unpaid remunerations due to the labour violations by employers. Wage and Hour Division of the department conducted 221 investigations of employers in the industry, and found more than US $ 3 million in unpaid wages for about 1,550 workers across LA. Ruben Rosalez, Regional Administrator for the Wage and Hour Division’s western region averred, “We are committed to strong enforcement and providing educational workshops for employers, yet we continue to find significant problems in this industry. We are using a variety of strategies to better protect workers and level the playing field for law-abiding businesses.”
