Rajasthan’s Chief Secretary V Srinivas has underscored the growing importance of textile research and proposed the organisation of a global conference of industry experts in Bhilwara, signalling the state’s intent to strengthen its position as a key textile hub.
Speaking during a visit to the Bhilwara Circuit House, where he was received by district officials, Srinivas highlighted the district’s steady industrial progress. He also launched the district’s first “Viksit Bharat Gram Abhiyan” as part of broader development initiatives.
During his visit, Srinivas inspected operations at Nitin Spinners and held discussions with textile entrepreneurs and farmers. Addressing the media, he noted that cotton cultivation in the district has expanded significantly in recent years, while yarn exports have shown consistent growth, reflecting the strengthening of Bhilwara’s textile ecosystem.
He observed that the number of spindles in the district has increased sharply—from approximately 60,000 to nearly 1.5 million—demonstrating substantial capacity expansion. Srinivas further stated that the state now aims to scale this up to 5 million spindles under the long-term “Viksit Bharat” and “Viksit Rajasthan” vision for 2047.
The Chief Secretary also highlighted the growing cultivation of Kasturi cotton in the region, indicating that this trend is expected to receive further support under the recently introduced Industrial Park Policy 2026. He added that the state government’s Textile and Apparel Policy 2025, implemented in December last year, is playing a crucial role in driving integrated growth across the textile value chain, particularly in emerging clusters such as Rupaheli.
Providing further details, Srinivas stated that extra-long staple cotton is currently being cultivated across approximately 30,000 hectares in Bhilwara and 11,000 hectares in Banswara. He indicated that consultations would be held with the agriculture department, the Cotton Corporation of India, and ginning units to further expand cultivation.
He emphasised that the sector holds significant growth potential and noted that the state government would continue to advance policy-led interventions to sustain and accelerate development in Rajasthan’s textile industry.
