A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Textiles Committee, under the Ministry of Textiles, Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), Department of Public Enterprises, for the promotion of upcycled products made from textiles waste and scrap, at the ongoing Bharat Tex 2024.
As the Chief Guest, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Minister of State for Textiles, was accompanied by top officials from the Ministry of Textiles. P. K. Singh, the CEO of GeM, was also there for this event.
Ajit B. Chavan, Additional CEO, GeM; S. P. Verma, Secretary, Textiles Committee; and SubhRatna, General Manager, SCOPE, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective organisations.
Through these Memorandums of Understanding, GeM will collaborate with all parties involved in the upcycling ecosystem, particularly underrepresented seller groups, to offer them direct market connections in public procurement without the need for middlemen by way of #Vocalforlocal GeM Outlet Stores. These shops will market repurposed goods created from leftover and discarded textile materials.
Additionally, GeM will strive to involve all parties involved in the textile upcycling industry through outreach, advocacy, awareness, mobilisation, and last-mile upcyclers’ capacity building. Stakeholder engagements and the creation of technical criteria for the listing of recycled product catalogues for Government buyers to purchase will be used to accomplish this.
