
In what is seen as a development that is set to ease the pressure of containers and facilitate Bangladesh’s import-export trade, two new private container depots or ICDs are set to be launched in 2024 in the port city of Chittagong, at a cost of around Taka 800 crore.
Reports claimed this citing the sources, while each ICD is set up on 20 acres of land while adding the Dhaka-based AGC Group has invested in Bay Link Containers Depot in Barabkunda area of Sitakunda, 35 km away from the Chittagong port while lawmaker from Chittagong -10 constituency Afsarul Ameen, has invested in Anchorage Containers Depot located in South Kattali area, 10 kms from the Chttagong Port.
At present, there are 19 ICDs in Bangladesh with a combined storage capacity of 76,000 TEUs even as when operation the two new ICDs will increase the storing capacity to 88,000 TEUs.
