In US, Justar Fashion – a garment contractor that produces apparel for retailers such as Stitch Fix, Indigo and Evereve – has failed to pay minimum wage and overtime as required by paying workers on piece-rate basis and at straight-time rates regardless of the overtime hours they worked.
Claiming so, US Department of Labour Wage and Hour Division investigators found that Justar Fashion has also failed to keep records of hours worked. Its actions have violated minimum wage, overtime and recordkeeping provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Rafael Valles, Assistant District Director, Wage and Hour Division in West Covina, California said in a statement, “The US Department of Labor is committed to making sure garment industry workers receive all of the wages they have earned, including overtime. Federal law protects all workers in the US – regardless of where they come from – and we urge them to contact the wage and hour division with any questions related to their wages and hours worked.”
The statement also says that back wages/damages recovered were worth US $ $145,290 for 32 employees.
