
A large number of spinning, dyeing, finishing, printing and garments production units in many industrial areas of Bangladesh are facing supply shortage of gas even as industry insiders have maintained this issue is common in almost all industrial areas – mostly in Savar, Gazipur, Manikganj and Narayanganj.
Media reports maintained this adding given the severity of the situation, many factory owners are, reportedly, considering closing down their units as years of discussing with the authorities to solve the crisis yielded little result.
“…we cannot continue like this anymore; perhaps we will have to shut the factory down…,” reportedly, maintained the Chairman of Savar’s Little Star Spinning Mills Limited, Khorshed Alam, who has also reached out to the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), asking the association to take necessary measures to solve the crisis.
Reports claimed Little Star is permitted to receive a gas flow of 10 per square inch (psi), which stays around only 2-3psi during day time, consequent to which, the company suffered production loss worth around Taka 145 crores in the last four years.
Meanwhile, sources from within the BTMA, reportedly, informed the media, they have received written complaints from at least four companies pertaining to gas supply shortage while many others are said to be suffering because of the same.
