Managing Director of Maksons Group Mohammad Ali Khokon who is also the Managing Director of Maksons Spinning Mills and Metro Spinning has been elected as the new President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) for the term 2019-2020.
This was informed by the BTMA through a press note issued recently.
It may be mentioned here that election results of Board of Directors and office bearers of BTMA were declared by its election board Chairman Jahangir Alamin at the 35th annual general meeting, presided over by the outgoing President Tapan Chowdhury.
Alamgir Samsul Alamin, Abdullah Al Mamun and Abdullah Al Mahmud have reportedly been elected as Vice-Presidents of the association.
At the annual general meeting, BTMA members reportedly also raised concerns over inadequate supply of gas for power generation and poor port facilities while maintaining that that deteriorating investment situation in textile sector created due to frequent fluctuation of cotton price, high rate of insurance premium, onslaught of unauthorised yarn & fabrics from various sources, delay as well as non-payment of supplied yarn and fabrics by some of RMG manufacturers in connivance with some commercial banks are increasingly becoming worrisome.
They reportedly also requested the newly-elected office-bearers as well as the Board of Directors to take up the issues with the relevant authorities.
