H&M in-house brand Arket has confirmed it is testing a new product integration powered by blockchain technology developer VeChain.
The Arket store has been running a small blockchain implementation to securely track the product data information.
Rumours of a pilot test started to spread on Reddit and Twitter in October. Recently, a spokesperson at Arket confirmed about an ongoing test run which is yet to be evaluated.
Moreover, the brand has done a small Proof of Concept (POC) through a pilot testing with VeChain for implementing blockchain technology to secure product data traceability in the Value chain. The test was made on a wool beanie from the autumn 2018 collection.
Before buying the product, the shoppers can retrieve the information related to the product such as material used, artist Id, colour, supplier, origin and factory name to be assured of what their product is made of. The information can be retrieved by scanning the product NFC chip through the VeChain app in their mobile phones.
It is worth pointing out the Arket’s collaboration with VeChain is far from a done deal and merely an experiment at this point of time.
Furthermore, VeChain just a few days ago, also collaborated with SBTG (aka Mr. Sabotage), the prominent shoe artist who has worked on iconic deigns for Nike and Kobe Bryant, Puma, Reebok and Asics.
The shoes were implanted with chips using blockchain technology, which allowed the customers to check for authenticity and proof of origin.
