Supply chain mapping software Sourcemap has collaborated with Scantrust, a connected packaging platform, to introduce a verified supply chain transparency to consumers via unique and secured QR code, NFC and RFID technology.
The QR code uses vision recognition technology that works on any smartphone to bring a fraud proofing supply chain traceability.
The collaboration brings a toolkit for consumer goods’ company to map the supply chain and verify the chain of custody via data-driven traceability.
The news came into light after an investigation into organic cotton fraud in India.
It was revealed that around 20,000 metric tonnes of cotton were incorrectly certified as organic. Following the rumours of the systematic fraud, Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) carried out surveillance audits which detected fake Raw Cotton Transaction Certificates (TCs).
“Scantrust is a natural partner to Sourcemap’s verified chain of custody approach to the consumers via copy-proof QR codes on the packaging itself,” said Leonardo Bonanni, founder and CEO of Sourcemap.
