
The Focus Incubation Centre (FIC) at NITRA, India’s leading textile research association, was inaugurated recently by the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Textiles, Ajay Tamta in presence of Sanjay Kumar Jain, MD, TT Ltd. & Chairman, NITRA along with the previous Chairman. Dr. Arindam Basu, Director General, NITRA was also present at the inauguration among other dignitaries.
The Focus Incubation Centre is an initiative towards innovation. NITRA, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), is also planning to come up with a competition to determine bright and innovative ideas, and help them to turn into commercial utility.
NITRA’s chairman said at the event that this is a move to promote innovation and startups in the textile sector by giving the right facilities and support to promising entrepreneurs of the industry.
NITRA has been selected by the Central Government as the Centre of Excellence for Protective Textiles and Automotive Textiles for providing infrastructure for developing expertise and technical capability for quality evaluation, product development, and information sharing in protective textiles segment.
Notably, NITRA’s scientists had also come up with many innovative products in this domain like- Military and Paramilitary uniforms from NYCO, Cut Resistant Gloves made with composite metallic yarn, and development of fabric for the Stab-Resistant Vest.
Additionally, Ajay Tamta, Union Minister of State for Textiles, emphasised the significant impact of the textile industry on Indian economy in terms of a notable contribution towards the nation’s GDP, overseas exchange earnings, and employment creation. He further affirmed that the government has been taking many essential steps to offer various attractive schemes in order to assist the Indian textile industry with a special focus on technical textiles.
