COVID-19 mayhem is certainly the worst crisis apparel and textile industry has seen in years but it has also come up with an opportunity which, if grabbed effectively, can open many doors for the industry for sustainable growth.
Walking across the same lines by sensing opportunities in these tough times, IMA Spa – a leading cutting room technology giant from Italy – has moved a step ahead to launch an app to stay better connected with its customers, at a time when travelling seems a not-to-opt kind of phenomenon.
The motive behind launching the app is to let the industry gear up for the upcoming first-ever IMA Digital Event which is scheduled to be organised on 3 December 2020.
The app is also a tribute to Late Luciano Sardini, Founder of IMA Spa, who passed away earlier this year in January. Speaking exclusively to Apparel Resources, his daughter and President of IMA Spa – Mirella Sardini, shared that Team IMA wanted to celebrate the achievements of its Captain after he left and decided to arrange an event in the presence of all its customers.

“While we aim to pay tributes to our Captain, we will also introduce some breakthrough novelties in terms of products and innovative functions to be integrated into our spreading and cutting machines. We also would like to introduce IMA philosophy of Syncro Cutting Room, which is an optimised and integrated management of the apparel and textile Cutting Room, to the world,” asserted Mirella.
Earlier, the event was supposed to be organised in September and then in October, hoping IMA could invite some customers – Italians and other Europeans – to IMA Headquarter; and have the rest of the world’s customers connected virtually.
“But COVID-19 made dents in our plans and we finally postponed the event till December in order to be sure about the presence of some customers, but unfortunately the situation due to pandemic seems to be getting worse and, for sure, we know that it is not feasible to organise a physical event today,” informed Mirella.

The event will scale up IMA’s efforts to connect with the industry as, during past couple of months, the team thought about new solutions to rethink consumer behaviour and overcame distances by creating and circulating new ideas; and now the app will take these efforts forward to make the reach of the event better.
Mirella further stated that the inspiration behind launching this app was to create a network which is able to connect, join and weave the stakeholders all together and, at the same time, to offer a new way of being together and sharing important moments – using modern technology, transforming the concept of an event into a new experience.
IMA has partnered with a company for this event which is specialised in organising such events and the proposal of the app came from them. The idea was to announce the event through the app in order to create more expectations and a closer connection with the customers.
“After the event, the app will be used for other functions such as after sale service to give a direct channel to our customers in case of need and eventually offer them some important information of their machines. The app will also have some technical documents,” concluded Mirella.
The new IMA app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple store.
