The brainchild of Rihanna, in collaboration with LVMH, Fenty, has released a capsule collection created using synthetic leather as the key material.
Drawing inspiration from the ‘Small Trades’ series by Irving Penn, which documented uniforms from the mid-20th century, the collection is marked by functional details and utilitarian design aesthetics.
The overall look is laidback with an attractive impression of freedom of movement.
FENTY promises ‘an innovative new fabric and elegant new colour palette’, using quality craftsmanship to create a fabric that is light and comfortable but at the same time, still luxe.
Details such as contrast stitching and embossed snap buttons feature throughout the collection.
The limited edition collection features a hoodie festooned with two drawstrings, an asymmetric oversized shirt, baggy trousers with lateral pockets, a corset dress and skirt in a colour palette varying between ‘Jet Black’ and neutral ‘Latte’ tones.
Fenty describes the collection as, ‘The tough, protective connotations of leather and striking silhouettes of uniforms are combined with the soft, rippling faux leather to give a relaxed FENTY feel – this juxtaposition speaks to the FENTY DNA of contrasts, rebelliousness and redefined luxury.’
Priced between US $ 540 for a skirt, US $ 630 for a shirt and US $ 850 for a dress, the collection is available for purchase at Fenty’s online e-commerce store Fenty.com.
