
With the idea of nurturing budding talents in the field of jewellery design, Swarovski Elements recently hosted the second edition of Jewellery Design Awards in New Delhi. The company invited entries from all across the country, expansive of jewellery design enthusiasts from a variety of fields including jewellery designers, couture designers, prestigious Indian jewellery brands, design students and master craftsmen.
The top 45 most distinctive, creative and viable designs were shortlisted from the final entries that were executed into actual pieces incorporating Swarovski Elements. The final pieces put on display were adjudged by a panel of deemed industry experts in a special two-day presentation which was open to the media as well. The panel comprised of renowned names in the media and design industry. Pleased at the high-level of interest and the quality of talent seen at the second edition of the awards Manoj Maithani, Managing Director, Swarovski Elements, Swarovski India Pvt. Ltd. expressed happiness at the turnout. “We feel this certainly proves to be a much-needed platform to showcase the best talents from the jewellery industry in India and therefore Swarovski Elements will continue to support young talent through such endeavours,” he said.
The inspiration for the designs was drawn from the very archives of Swarovski Elements, which is one of the world’s finest producers of cut crystals, providing a wide base of ideas to work on for colours, effects, shapes, cut and sizes. The results were collated on the basis of a select set of parameters, namely originality and creativity of design, use of unique and innovative jewellery techniques, quality of craftsmanship, overall finish (casting, plating, beading, weaving etc.), wearability and practicality along with an inventive use of Swarovski crystals.
According to veteran couturier, Tarun Tahiliani, “Jewellery made with Swarovski Elements works well in today’s modern lifestyle where people define themselves differently since it’s not about the value but beauty and design.” Megha Saigal who has been announced as the winner of Swarovski Elements Jewellery design awards will be given the opportunity to visit the Swarovski Headquarters in Wattens, Austria for a jewellery trend and application technique workshop and a visit to the Crystal Worlds museum.
