Lenzing Group’s Tencel fibre with Refibra Technology will form the basis of the Austrian firm’s famous denim capsule collection, ‘Midnight Blues’ at Kingpins show in Amsterdam this month. The collection is the result of company’s collaboration with emerging designer Pawan Kumar from SAITEX, the world’s cleanest denim manufacturer and with many global mills known for their sustainable practices.
The Refibra Technology regenerates cotton scraps from industrial waste, so that the subsequent upcycled cotton is suitable to be mixed with wood in order to form Tencel Lyocell fibres. Thus, the Refibra Technology reflects Lenzing’s commitment to circular economy. The Tencel denim fabrics selected by Pawan for the amazing collection were then processed using Jeanologia technology and manufactured at SAITEX
Tricia Carey, Director of Global Business Development for Denim, Lenzing stated, “Tencel Lyocell with Refibra technology brings circularity to textiles by using post-industrial cotton waste to make new lyocell fibres. Initially launched in February 2017, we now have a wider range of mills and brands integrating Refibra technology into their collections.”
SAITEX has been awarded Blue Sign as well as LEED certifications for its factory technologies which are said to eliminate water waste by recycling up to 98 per cent of the water it uses. Moreover, SAITEX has invested in industry’s leading technology which makes washing a much more resource efficient process as compared to the inefficient ‘belly’ washers, used in traditional manufacturing. It is worth mentioning that factory’s electricity dependency and carbon footprint have been reduced with remarkable air drying techniques as well as by using solar and other clean resources. In an effort to achieve zero waste with high impact, SAITEX recycles little wastes it generates into bricks which are further used to build orphanages in Vietnam.
Regarding the opportunity to work with Lenzing’s materials for the collection, Pawan said, “With these innovative fabrics, it was easy to attain the specific wash effects and visual textures I wanted for my designs, which embrace sustainability from fibre to finished garment. I am eager to present theMidnight Bluescollection at Kingpins Amsterdam and show the market that beautiful, sustainable denim is the future.”
The ‘Midnight Blues’ collection proves to be beautiful, versatile, and sustainable denim. The collection was recently previewed at New York Couture Fashion Week.
In addition to the denim styles present in the collection, knitted and woven garments were also manufactured by other known mills such as Artistic Denim Mills, Artistic Milliners, Barutcu, Blue Diamond, Candiani, Cone Denim, Hallotex, Orta, Prosperity, Royo, Textil Santaderina, and Tintex.
