Al Shahriar Ahmed, the leader of the Oikko Parishad panel, declared that if his panel wins the next BGAPMEA election for the 2024–2026 term, he would create a cell devoted to providing UP services online and would push for extending its validity from one year to three years.
During Monday night’s Oikko Parishad director candidates’ introduction ceremony, he revealed this idea as part of a thorough 23-point programme.
The candidates’ names were revealed by Md. Khosru Chowdhury, a member of parliament and managing director of the Nipa Group. The top organisation representing the clothing industry’s backward linkage sector, the Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA), is scheduled to hold elections in 11th May, 33 years after it was founded.
The program featured notable figures such as former Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Siddiqur Rahman, former president and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, BGMEA President SM Mannan Kochi, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Executive President Mohammad Hatem, former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Jahangir Alam, DBL Group Vice Chairman MA Rahim Feroz, BGMEA Director Rajiv Chowdhury, Abrar Hossain Sayem, former President of BGAPMEA Abdul Kadir Khan, Shofiullah Chowdhury, Rafez Alam, Mondol Group Director Asadur Rahman Sikder, and other general members of the apex body.
Shahriar, also the Managing Director of Adzi Trims, said: “We will focus on the development of the accessory and packaging sector if voters support our panel. BGMEA benefits from a three-year validity for the UD issue, and if elected, we will strive to extend the UP validity from one year to three years. Additionally, we will establish a dedicated cell to provide smart UP support to our members.”
He also described plans to register three bigha lands in Purbachal for the construction of a packaging institute and to create a second cell that will work with the central bank to guarantee prompt recoveries from buyers.
“To address the crisis in the accessories sector, we will forge a long-lasting partnership and collaborate with the BGMEA, BKMEA, and the ministry of commerce and industry,” he continued.
As the chief guest, Siddiqur Rahman, the secretary of Industry and Commerce for the Bangladesh Awami League Central Committee and past president of the BGMEA, requests that voters support the Oikko Parishad panel to advance the association.
BGMEA President Kochi said that he will jointly work with the upcoming BGAPMEA board as the apparel sector is highly dependent on accessories and packaging.
