The world’s second-largest apparel exporter, Bangladesh is progressively establishing itself as a worldwide hub for value-added and sustainable ready-made garment (RMG) manufacturing, according to Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 16th edition of Intex Bangladesh Expo-2025, he emphasised the country’s evolving role in the international textile and apparel industry.
Bangladesh is quickly becoming a global centre for the production of high-quality, sustainable clothing, and it is no longer merely a volume player. The country is in a strong position to spearhead the next phase of ethical fashion and textile sourcing because to strategic investments in innovation, compliance, and a trained labour force, Rahman said.
He added that RMG exports are expected to reach over US $ 56 billion by 2026, highlighting the value of platforms such as Intex in promoting global collaboration, diversifying supply chains, and exhibiting technological innovations in the textile industry.
Md Anwar Hossain, Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau, noted the significant trade relations between Bangladesh and other countries, particularly India, which supplies substantial quantities of cotton and RMG-related products, aiding Bangladesh’s export growth.
Faisal Samad, Managing Director of Savartex Group, expressed cautious optimism about the industry’s future as Bangladesh prepares to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status. “While we celebrate our success, we recognise new opportunities and challenges ahead, especially in trade, compliance, and market access. Embracing new technologies showcased at Intex is crucial to maintaining our competitiveness,” he said.
Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, emphasised Intex Bangladesh’s role as a vital sourcing event, enabling the sector to access advanced fibers, fabrics, and machinery necessary for producing world-class products.
Presiding over the event, Rajesh Bhagat, Chairman and Managing Director of Worldex India, remarked, “No country is fully self-sufficient in apparel and RMG production, which makes international collaboration essential.”
