Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) has signed agreements with service providers so that all workers get discount during the entire month of May. Disadvantaged workers and their families will be given special treatment and outstanding workers shall be honoured throughout the month.
“Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has held a dialogue with 2,000 workers in the central key economic region to help solve their problems. Improving workers’ working and living conditions should be a continual and consistent mission rather than a short-term solution during the Month of Workers,” averred Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, Vice Chairwoman of VGCL.

VGCL has also set minimum nutrition and food safety standards for meals provided by employers to employees. “Employers and the trade union will be held accountable for any food poisoning at their place of business. We are developing a project to build institutions that cover basic services for workers in industrial parks, including accommodations, kindergartens, health centres, supermarkets, and legal counselling centres,” Nguyen mentioned.
The funding for this project will come from the Government, local authorities, private contributions, and trade unions. The project will be implemented in Tien Giang and Ha Nam province and Da Nang city in 2017.
